Glastonbury 2008

Michael Eavis has announced that tickets for next year’s Glastonbury will be available to reserve as early as this October.

Casting the safety net as wide as possible, the founder of the world famous music event will put 100,000 tickets up for grabs some five months earlier than normal.

For a fee of £50 each punters will be able to put their name down on tickets to secure secure access to next year’s shindig.

Although declared a success it’s hard to ignore the fact that some 800 tickets for the 2008 weekend were still available when the gates opened on Wednesday June 25th.

Michael Eavis said: “Everybody wants to come. Everywhere I go people say, 'Oh, we should've been there and we're so fed up about it' because it was so good.”

The good weather and success of artists like Jay-Z eventually turned the festival’s fortunes around this year but there’s no doubt these new measures have been put in place to battle the slow uptake of tickets that occurred this year.

Eavis also went onto explain that ticket prices will increase in line with production costs but insisted that this year’s revelry was done relatively inexpensively: “We actually did it cheap. We couldn't cover the costs at that price. It wasn't a loss but it wasn't as good as it should've been”

Excited about the direction the festival will be taking after this year’s pivotal weekend he said: “It's completely different to how we we're talking six months ago when we were saying 'Oh no, is this the end? It's on its way out because we didn't sell out straight away ...' so we had all those stories about the demise of the festival and they were completely wrong. We completely changed it around”

Speaking to The Guardian Eavis also commented on Jay-Z’s Saturday night headlining set.

“We'll probably be going for the more traditional headliner next year because there are more of them around, and after this year everyone wants to come onboard because it was such a good do.”

Those who buy tickets from October 5th who later decide they longer wish to attend the event will be refunded with a £10 charge.
