Nice must have list.

The last three shows I have seen were Acid Mothers Temple, Dream Theater, and Mars Volta. I would agree that metal is doing fine.

However, I do not agree that:
the most anticipated metal release
of 2008 is undoubtedly Metallica’s
as yet-untitled new album

I do not know anyone who currently cares about Naptallica at all, but like Portishead they may surprise a lot of folks.

For me the most anticipated albums are Mastodon & Thrice--both bands are doing a series of Elemental (Earth, Air, Fire, & Water) records and I think it is going to be interesting to see how they line up. Thanks, David S

Many thanks for the nod to Meshuggah. If there is a more vital and pummeling track forged in metal this year than 'Bleed', then I am yet to hear it.

They truly are a revelation.

I've heard it. It's Opeth's 'Heir Apparent'.
