Kamasi Washington Unveils New Album, ‘Fearless Movement’

The US saxophonist's first studio album in six years will be released in May

Kamasi Washington has shared details of his next studio album, Fearless Movement.

The follow-up to 2018’s Heaven And Earth, Washington describes the new record as his dance album. "It’s not literal," he said in a statement. "Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music — expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing."

Featuring 12 tracks, Fearless Movement takes in contributions from André 3000 (who plays flute), George Clinton and Thundercat, as well as Washington’s daughter, who wrote the melody to album cut ‘Asha The First’ during her first experimentations with the piano. To mark the record’s announcement, the saxophonist has shared closing track ‘Prologue’. You can watch a video for the song above.

Young will release Fearless Movement on May 4, 2024.
