Rough Trade Reveals New LP Of Unheard Arthur Russell Material

'Picture Of Bunny Rabbit' features recordings which date back to 1985 and 1986

Rough Trade and Audika Records are linking up to put out a new album of previously unreleased Arthur Russell material.

Spanning nine tracks, the recordings featured on Picture Of Bunny Rabbit were captured at New York’s Battery Sound studio across 1985 and 1986, while Russell was recording his second studio album, 1986’s World Of Echo. They were taken from completed masters culled from two unique test pressings, which were provided by his mother and sister. You can listen to album cut ‘The Boy With A Smile’ above.

Among the featured recordings is a solo rendition of Russell’s track ‘In The Light Of A Miracle’ and the title instrumental ‘Picture Of Bunny Rabbit’, which was written especially for a friend’s pet rabbit. Picture Of Bunny Rabbit‘s release comes some months after Rough Trade reissued two albums of Russell archive material, Love Is Overtaking Me and Corn, in December.

Rough Trade / Audika will release Picture Of Bunny Rabbit on June 23, 2023.
