On-U Sound Continues African Head Charge Reissue Campaign

The second instalment in the retrospective series will look over Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and Adrian Sherwood's work together from 1990 and onwards

Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound label has announced the second part of its ongoing African Head Charge reissues series.

Having launched in 2016, the label repressed the first four albums that percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and dub producer Adrian Sherwood produced together as African Head Charge through the ’80s. The next series picks up where those left off in 1990.

The albums Songs of Praise from 1990, In Pursuit of Shashamane Land from 1993, Vision of a Psychedelic Africa from 2005 and Voodoo of the Godsent from 2011 will all be reissued, and the latter two will appear on vinyl for the first time.

Both Songs of Praise and In Pursuit of Shashamane Land have been expanded to double albums taking in a number of bonus rarities. There will also be a new release titled Churchical Chant of the Iyabinghi which takes in alternate mixes and dubs recorded between 1990 and 1993.

Each vinyl LP will come with a double-sided 24" x 12" poster that features an exclusive new interview with Bonjo in five parts alongside rare photos.

Finally, all of the contents from the vinyl reissues will be anthologised in the 5CD, 36-page book boxset, Drumming Is A Language.

All five vinyl releases and the CD box set will be released via On-U Sound on March 6.
