Arthur Russell Features On New Peter Zummo Album

Recordings dating back to 1984 featuring Arthur Russell are set to feature on a new album by Peter Zummo

Recordings featuring Arthur Russell made more than three decades ago will feature on a new record by composer Peter Zummo.

The previously unreleased recordings were discovered in Zummo’s archive and lifted from his Six Songs suite. They date back to 1984 and feature Zummo on trombone, Arthur Russell playing the cello, Bill Ruyle on marimba and Mustafa Ahmed on congas.

Some material from Six Songs featured on Zummo’s 1985 album Zummo With An X, but the previously unreleased pieces will now appear on Frame Loop which is set for release on Foom Music on March 2. You can hear ‘Song II: Right; Off The Beat’ from the record above.

Zummo describes Frame Loop as "an exercise in spontaneous arrangement", with the recordings chiefly sticking to a written score with occasional variations.
