Help The Orion Doc: Name A Star!

The director of Sound It Out and The Great Hip Hop Hoax is back...

One of tQ’s favourite documentary directors, Jeanie Finlay is back with a new project, Orion: The Man Who Would Be King… and she wants your help.

The director of Sound It Out and The Great Hip Hop Hoax is set to tell the story of the titular Orion, a masked singer signed to Sun Records who undoubtedly gave rise to the widely believed myth that Elvis Presley did not die in 1977.

Finlay explains: "10 years ago I bought an Orion record at a car boot-sale, it was on Sun Records, on gold vinyl. I played it and heard this unmistakable voice. I immediately wanted to find out more about the mysterious masked man on the cover.

"What I uncovered was a rollercoaster story of the Nashville music scene in the wake of Elvis Presley’s death. Orion’s mask and his incredible voice ignited a fantasy and hundreds of thousands of people believed that Elvis might be alive. It’s an extraordinary story and I knew immediately I wanted to make it into a film."

As with Sound It Out, the director is offering a number of well thought out exclusive perks including custom made Tatty Devine jewellery, bespoke Orion masks, the chance to name a star in the Orion constellation, Orion LPs (not to mention eight tracks), awesome Hatch Show Print rockabilly prints and even the opportunity to become an executive producer on the film.

The crowd-funding campaign runs until April 27, and you can find out more by visiting OrionTheMovie.com. You can get more information from the facebook page and on Twitter via @orionmovie.
