WATCH: Islam Chipsy Live @ 100Copies Cairo

New footage of the Keyboard King of Cairo and his new wave, delta synth chaabi

"Is Islam Chipsy currently the world’s most exciting keyboard player? " is pretty much the definition of a loaded question but nevertheless, this YouTube footage proves effortlessly that he is certainly in contention for this title.

The film (courtesy of Mahmoud Refat) shows Chipsy and his two drummers playing at Cairo’s 100Copies Electronic Music festival recently.

The keyboard player is currently helping to compile a live album with friend of the Quietus, Hicham Chadly, which will hopefully be released in this country later in the year on Nashazphone via Cargo (more news on this when we have it).

Quietus Editor John Doran interviewed The Keyboard King Of Cairo earlier in the year in the Markez nightclub on a trip to Egypt. Read the full interview here.

Also playing at the festival were Telepoetic and Neobyrd, check out the footage below:

Also coming soon we have a full interview with Mahmoud – who runs the 100Copies festival and the dubplate cutting facility of the same name – about the exciting new musical projects that are afoot in Egypt. As always, our thoughts are with everyone in Cairo and elsewhere in Egypt and other MENA territories undergoing massive political upheaval.
