Alan Vega LP, ‘Insurrection’, Set For Posthumous Release

It follows a 2021 record of previously unreleased material by the late artist called 'Mutator'

An album of previously unreleased music by the late Alan Vega is to be given a posthumous release next month.

Taking in 11 tracks, Insurrection follows a similar LP of previously unheard material by the Suicide co-founder, Mutator, which came out in 2021. Like the music that featured on that album, the tracks on Insurrection were discovered after Vega’s friends and collaborators set about assembling his remaining unreleased material after his death in 2016.

To mark the announcement of Insurrection, lead track ‘Mercy’ has been shared online alongside a video for the cut, which was directed by The Jesus And Mary Chain’s Douglas Hart and can be watched above. "To underscore the powerful rhythms of the song, the video loops and repeats simple movements, like the repeated opening and closing of doors," Hart said of the visual in press materials. "The textures of the music are illustrated by using both black and white and heavy colour-tinted images."

In The Red will release Insurrection on May 31, 2024.
